How to keep a HonkIP name pointing at your home, for 23 routers, NAS boxes and computers.
Any router: Custom DDNS setting
Open your router's settings page. It's often 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Find the Dynamic DNS page, choose Custom (some routers call this setting Dynamic DNS or DDNS), and type:
Server update.honkip.com
Hostname yourname.honkip.com
Username yourname.honkip.com
Password YOUR-KEY
If your router only shows a fixed list of providers, with nowhere to type a server, see Netgear, ASUS and ISP routers.
Older router that can't use HTTPS or SSL? Turn that option off; the same settings work over plain HTTP. It's a little less private, so use HTTPS if your router has it.
