Set up any router using the Custom option
Most routers have a built-in "Dynamic DNS" setting. Once it's set, the router tells HonkIP every time your address changes.
- Open your router's settings page in a browser. It's usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. The address and login are often printed on a sticker on the router.
- Find Dynamic DNS or DDNS. It's often under Internet, WAN, Network or Advanced.
- For the provider, choose Custom (some routers call this setting Dynamic DNS or DDNS).
- Fill in:
- Server: update.honkip.com
- Hostname: yourname.honkip.com
- Username: yourname.honkip.com
- Password: your update key (from the Setup page, not your account password)
- Save. Many routers show a status like "Connected" or "Updated".
Check it worked: on your HonkIP My home page, the "last updated" time should now be recent.
No Custom option? If your router only offers a fixed list of providers, see My router only lists a few providers. A NAS, PC or Raspberry Pi at home can do the job instead.
Older router without HTTPS? Turn the HTTPS/SSL option off. The same settings work, just slightly less private.
